A cool YART sale in Lawrence, Kansas. My friend Lynn & I cruised around town, window shopping and generally drifting around town. While downtown we spotted a few cool store manikins and a groovy hanging light fixture, made from dolls, as well as a "Art-o-Mat" art dispenser! What fun!

On a tour of Lawrence today, we drove past an "artwork in progress". This "stick" installation appeared to be a swirling beehive from a distance. Upon closer inspection, we realized that the entire structure was created from branches attached with a weaving like application and no twine or wire. After getting out & talking with one of the workers, we discovered that the work is meant for temporary display for about a year. The underlying tree was scheduled for removal, but the artist, Patrick Dougherty, gave it a year's reprieve!

Here are two of my Humanities students who TOTALY got into the protective masks & goggles they wore while working on their mosaics. They did not want to take them off! Perhaps it might have something to do with this whole swine flu stuff going on.....

I went to Lawrence today with a girlfriend to tour my son's fraternity that he just joined. What a guy place it is! We went downtown for dinner and shopping. I could not resist snapping this picture of storefront stencil graffiti!

This weekend I went to Steve Hess'es Spring Garden sale this weekend. He really has an amazing garden and yard. My husband & I own several of Steve's pieces and have them around our yard and we love them. His cool sculptures are made from concrete and paper pulp. Check out this really cool totem sculpture that he made:

SIGNS OF SPRING:

Today I wandered around the backyard marveling at the new signs of spring. This tree blooms once a year for 1 week. Too bad it does not last longer. This iris is from my grandparents garden. I transplanted it many years ago after a trip to Pennsylvania. Every spring when it blooms I think of my grandparents and how much they loved to garden.

Minneapolis Road Trip: I recently attended the National Art Education Conference in Minneapolis. I road tripped it up north and arrived after a 6 hour drive. I had a great time at the conference, making new friends, hanging out with old friends, seeing museums, making my FIRST trip to IKEA, and learning new things. I snapped this picture at a wig shop across from my hotel. I don't know why, but these heads make me smile.......
