My students have been studying the art of Randi Feuerhelm Watts. They have been creating mini paintings that I call "Synectic Stencil Silhouette" designs, that were inspired by studying Randi's work. Each student created a positive and negative silhouette stencil and used both in various ways. The students were required to use 3 "synectic triggers", such as reversing, overlapping, combining, superimposing, fragmenting, and outlining when creating their design. I think the results are outstanding!

PHOTOSHOP ADVENTURES

I recently installed Photoshop on my laptop and have been learning about it by playing around with it. Here is a photo of a mannequin I've altered. I call it "Orange Crush"! The saleswoman at the store where I shot this picture gave me a hard time about taking it. Maybe she thought I was a stylist spy. Photoshop is SO fun!

JEWELRY ADVENTURES: I love to create mixed media jewelry and I call these pieces Soldered Reliquary Shrine pendants. Joseph Cornell's artwork is a huge influence on my work. The elements that make up my Shrine pendants come from my many trips and travels around the country to antique shops, flea markets and garage sales. I start by selecting a theme for each pendant and gather objects that match the theme. You can check my website for more images! (jeanneelmer.com)

GAMEBOARD JOURNAL ADVENTURES:

I love to create journals! I started to customize my visual journals by creating what I call an "Un-Journal". This technique enables me to add all kinds of sizes, shapes and types of paper pages in my journals. I really like to push the envelope when it comes to journal covers. The past few years I have been making my journal covers from gameboards. This journal has been made from an antique gameboard that I found in an antique shop. I have no idea what type of gameboard this is! I've done research online & can't find any information about it!

NYC ADVENTURES: I recently spent 5 days in NYC attending and teaching at the National Art Education Association conference. I took this picture of a really cool doorway while shopping in Soho. I had a great time visiting the Big Apple, and I found some cool new stores: Metalifferous, M & J Trimming, Pearl River Mart, and Pylones. I even got to watch the St. Patricks Day parade!
